Quantitative analysis support to Development Efficiency initiative
Management Challenge
Our client, a leading Europe based global pharmaceutical company, aimed to enhance its Development efficiency & decision making, as a part of an internal cross-functional design initiative cutting across R&D and Project Management functions.
The overall initiative was a step in order to achieve the next phase of goals on the road to 2014 vision defined for the organization.
Kinapse Approach
Kinapse supported the Development Efficiency initiative team with high quality quantitative analysis focused on the following areas:
- Planned vs. Actuals (2010) across all projects/ activities in R&D by TA, phase and priority
- Resource demand vs. supply (2010) for all L1 and L2 departments
- Headcount and FTEs compliance (2010) across all L2 departments
- Multi-tasking per individual (2010) across selected L2 departments
- Non-project activities (2010) across selected L2 departments
- Internal and external costs by trial, patient, phase, TA
Benefits and Outcomes of our Engagement
The analysis was developed as efficient Excel based solutions that highlighted definitive areas of improvement for the organization and subsequently triggered corrective actions.
- Data Management and Medical Writing functions were shown to be spending too much time on non-project activities, higher than what was anticipated
- Costs data was deemed insufficient to produce any meaningful analysis; organization decided to capture costs in a better way
